Autumn Activities: Movement That Feels Good

10.09.25 |

Autumn is a wonderful time of year – crisp air, colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, and maybe a cup of warm apple cider. But beyond the seasonal comforts, fall is also the perfect time to add movement to your day and embrace the outdoors.

The summer heat can make exercise feel like a chore. But autumn practically invites you outside. Whether you’re looking to boost your steps, enjoy the scenery, or add additional movement to your day, here are some great ways to stay active this fall:

  • Rake – and move – with purpose. Raking leaves can be a great workout, especially when you’re doing it briskly and using good form. Turn it into a cardio session by raking for 20-30 minutes, then take a moment to breathe in that fresh, earthy air. Bonus points if you jump in the leaf pile afterward!
  • Take a scenic hike or walk. Fall’s cool temperatures and breathtaking foliage make it the ideal season for a hike or nature walk. Local trails, parks, or even the street you live on can feel transformed this time of year. Bring a friend, your dog, or a great playlist and get those steps in while soaking up the beauty.
  • Make movement a daily habit. Autumn has a way of returning us to our routines after summer’s crazy schedules. That makes it a great season to build or reset your Habits of Healthy Motion. Try:
    • A brisk 20-minute walk after lunch
    • Evening yoga with the windows open
    • Weekend bike rides or fall runs in your area
  • Backyard sports. The cooler weather is perfect for backyard games that keep you moving! Think touch football, frisbee, soccer, or pickleball. Grab a few friends or neighbors, and turn your weekend into a fun, active time outdoors.
  • Farm visits, pumpkin patches & outdoor markets. Fall festivals, apple orchards, and pumpkin patches are a great way to stay active and add steps to your day without it feeling like a workout.

Staying active doesn’t always have to mean structured workouts. Autumn gives us the perfect opportunity to blend movement with enjoyment. So, layer up, step outside, and embrace the energy of the season!
