I’m surrounding myself with people whose values are the same

I had a very unhealthy mind and was unhealthy myself

Twelve years ago, I was a burned out, stressed out, overweight, 200-pound* cardiologist. I didn’t have time with my wife or my family, I was very out of shape, and most of all, I felt very out of balance because I went into medicine to help people, and what I discovered was that I really wasn’t able to help them that much.

I was living very unhealthy habits of life in the middle of a healthcare system that’s supposed to model health and wellbeing. It took me a while to accept the fact that I was in a very unhealthy environment, and I was unhealthy myself. A large part of that was the only time I had restful sleep was when I was on vacation, and that didn’t last long because I was worried about when I’d have to go back to work.

As a healthcare professional, I had a lot of facts and knowledge, including information about weight and obesity. I was trained and paid well to treat and manage the disease. At the same time, I had a very unhealthy mind and I was unhealthy myself.

Science-based methodology

Dr. Andersen created a science based methodology to take all that theory and knowledge and actually get the results. I’ve learned new habits, I eat healthy, I hydrate well, and I sleep really well. I work out all the time, and I love it. I have peace and balance in my mind, in my life. And when people understand that the power is in the choices that they make, they are the architect of their life. We have a science-based methodology; this is evidence based. I’m part of the evidence. People can do this.

I went into medicine to help people, and what I discovered was that I really wasn’t able to help them that much.

I’m now 70 years old and 160 pounds*. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been in my life. I have more balance and joy and freedom and fulfillment in my life than I ever have.

What Dr. Andersen shared with me and many others was really the understanding that the power is in the choices we make each and every day, whether they’re the small choices or the bigger choices that over time lead to healthier habits.

My life is completely different. I’m the best doctor I’ve ever been. I think of myself now as a true health professional, as a true physician because I’m not waiting for people to get sick and simply reacting to disease. I’ve learned how to teach people and guide people using Habits of Health to empower them to create healthier lives.
