We are about to reach that mid-summer stretch where the days are long, and the calendar is filling up fast. It’s easy to let the weeks blur together, but there is still so much of the season left to enjoy. Now is the perfect time to check in with yourself and make sure you’re getting outside for fresh air and sunlight!
Bringing your healthy habits outdoors is one of the easiest ways to refresh your routine. When you move your activity outside, you get the added benefit of being in nature. A way to enjoy the sun and fresh air! If you’re looking for some ideas to keep your momentum going through the rest of July and into August, here are a few ideas:
- Walk or Hike: Whether it’s a quiet stroll through the neighborhood or a trek through a nearby State Park, getting some fresh air is a great way to clear your head.
- Bike: Grab a bike and hit the local paths. It’s a fantastic way to explore your area while getting your heart rate up.
- Kayak or Paddleboard: Head to the water to cool off. You can rent gear at a local lake or get your own to explore the waterways in your community.
- Yoga or Tai Chi: Try moving your practice to the grass. The open air adds a whole new layer of relaxation to your workout.
- Golf: If you choose to walk the course, you can easily get your steps in while spending quality time with friends.
- Read: Health isn’t always about movement. Taking your book to a park bench or a shaded porch is a perfect way to recharge your mental battery.
While you’re out there, remember to be safe. Keep a bottle of water handy, especially on these really hot days. Don’t forget to put on some SPF and reapply if you’ve been swimming or sweating. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the temperature and take a break in the shade if you start feeling a bit too warm.
If you’re heading into the woods, be mindful of the bugs and maybe wear long pants to keep the ticks and mosquitoes away. Finally, if you’re venturing off the beaten path, just let a friend know where you’re going and check the weather before you head out.
You don’t have to do everything outside this summer, just a few activities that bring you back to nature and make you feel great! Whether it’s a long walk at sunset or a weekend trip to the lake, there’s still plenty of time to get outside and make great summer memories.
