Don't underestimate the power of your daily choices!
In my book Dr. A.’s Habits of Health, I discuss how we live in an obesigenic world.
We are surrounded by seductively tasty, cheap, convenient, but oh-so-unhealthy food. In a recent New York Times article titled The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food, writer Michael Moss covered the science behind the addictive attributes of junk food.
The article described how, in an effort to address the obesity issue, the major executives of America’s largest food companies gathered at a symposium to discuss solutions. On the agenda? The staggering statistic of a declining nation, and the way food companies contributed. The CEO of one of the companies spoke that it was not their responsibility and much like the cigarette industry the food bosses ignored the health threat.
Unfortunately, over a decade later our children are being diagnosed with life threatening illnesses like diabetes younger and younger.
The large food industries have one area of weakness when it come to the food they manufacture and that’s the power of choice. This means it’s your call-you can buy or not buy their products. Everyday we make over 200 food choices and the large food companies have advertising and slick marketing on their side. What do you have on your side? The desire to live a long healthy life, to reach optimal health and the desire to change your relationship with food.
In my new book Discover Your Optimal Health (June 2013 release), we will begin to teach you how to awaken your desire to create optimal health, how to stop dieting and start living healthy. I can assure you that the motivation to change starts from a fundamental understanding that any meaningful change comes from within. It can’t come from outside yourself, or it just won’t last. Your desire for health has to become a priority to you because big business does not have this goal in mind. You will need to have confidence that you will be successful by learning the Habits of Health, then all that’s left to do is take the time necessary to make meaningful change.
