My oldest daughter got married recently. As a father, the feelings of love and joy that came with this moment are hard to describe, but they are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life.
When it comes down to it, my “why” for the choices I make is simple: I want as many memories with the people I love as I can get, and the journey that has taken me on – through Dr. A’s Habits of Health and beyond – has blessed me with the opportunity to help others do the same. A healthy choice is not just about calories or reaching a healthy weight or looking great in swimsuits.
A healthy choice can potentially give us more time.
No matter how many excuses I can imagine in the moment, the idea that what I do right now could give me more moments with my daughters is more powerful than any sugar craving or any lazy morning.
I love my family, so on days when I’m not motivated by doing the right thing for my health, I think of them. Even when I don’t want to do something for myself, I always want to do something for them. The energy that gives me to be better, to do better, and to have a bigger impact carries me through my bad days and supercharges my good days.
